A TYPICAL SESSION

Stride students meet one-on-one with a mentor each week. Here is what a session typically looks like:

  • Graph grades and monitor progress from the previous week

  • Develop routine and success list for the upcoming week

  • Organize binders, notebooks and electronic folders

  • Review material for upcoming tests and quizzes

  • Begin organizing and breaking down large assignments

PURPOSE OF MENTORING

  • Help students organize their lives

  • Improve academic skills

  • Develop study skills

  • Learn self advocacy skills

  • Evaluate time management

  • Improve organization

  • Learn independent problem solving and creative thinking

  • Create a weekly and daily routine

  • Develop self-assessment skills

  • Improve extracurricular performance and focus

WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN SESSIONS

  • Students are assigned weekly tasks

  • Mentors check in with students via phone and/or text throughout the week to monitor progress

  • Mentors communicate with parents and students to find solutions to any problems that come up

  • Students have the opportunity to practice the skills they learned during their weekly session
